About 13 Degree Lateral Impact Testing for Aluminum and Steel Wheels
13 Degree Lateral Impact Testing for Aluminum Wheels and Steel Wheels is designed to test wheel sizes from 12" to 24" in diameter to specific SAE Standards for passenger cars and light trucks. Lateral impact testing simulates a vehicle striking a curb or other road.
13 Degree Lateral Impact Testing Process
13 Degree Lateral Impact Testing for aluminum and steel wheels are very similar. The wheel is mounted on a 13 degree angle on the impact machine. Loads are calculated by using the relevant SAE standard. The calculated weight is dropped on the wheel and the tire assembly. When the cycle is complete the wheel undergoes a Liquid Penetrant Test (LPT) to detect possible failures.
